Endowment Established - 1984 Purpose... The memorial... Walter E. Sundstrom of Skykomish served as a combat Marine during World War II engaged in the pivotal battle for Guadalcanal. He held degrees from the University of Washington and University of California where he attended medical school.
Dr. Sundstrom was a founding
member of Bothell Medical Clinic (presently named Lakeshore
Clinic-Bothell), having arrived earlier in Bothell to
practice medicine beginning in 1955. He served as a member and chairman
of the Bothell Planning Commission and was later elected mayor of
Bothell serving in the tumultuous 1960s. He was an avid outdoorsman, sailor and skier. He and his wife Lois had nine children. Daughter BZ Sundstrom Davis has served a number of years on the Northshore School District board of directors.
Dr. Sundstrom died of cancer in 1973. The Sundstrom
scholarship funds became part of this Foundation when it was formed in
1984. |
